4 Things to Consider When Accessorizing Gold Dresses

Have you ever considered wearing a gold ensemble? While not many of us can pull off a golden gown, there are those who can effortlessly channel their inner goddesses and rock bold, metallic dresses. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t wear one should you ever feel like it.
Some of the most breath-taking gowns we’ve seen in the Oscars are metallic ensembles. From Farrah Fawcett’s gold chainmail slip dress in 1978, Charlize Theron’s body-clinging Gucci dress in 2004, Jennifer Aniston’s embroidered strapless Valentino gown in 2009, Sandra Bullock’s Marchesa ensemble in 2010, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Calvin Klein Collection sheath in 2011, Emma Stone’s fringed Givenchy in 2017, and most recently, Lupita Nyong’o in a gold chainmail Versace creation. Indeed, there is no scarcity in best dressed celebrities wearing gold on the red carpet and this should be an inspiration to those who want to go for golden ensembles for their proms.

There are different shades of gold to suit different skin tones and there are a multitude of dress styles so that you can find one that best complements your body type. When considering what to wear, choosing the right accessories can also make or break the look, especially when you’re wearing a gold dress.

Here are a few tips on how to accessorize a gold dress without going over the top:

1. Jewelry

The rule of thumb with jewelry is that a gold accessory with a gold dress is an absolute no-no! Pearls and diamonds will be beautiful accents to a gold sheath gown. A modest diamond necklace or diamond clasp bracelet will make you shine the night away with gold prom dresses 2018 collection.

If you are wearing a necklace with your dress, you can skip the earrings, or vice versa. If, for example, you are wearing a strapless dress, skipping the necklace and opting for chandelier earrings in shades of black or brown will have a stunning appeal.

For fun and upbeat dresses, you can wear funky necklaces, bangles, or bracelets that come in black or brown hues. Also, you can wear a leather belt, boots, and a jacket in a neutral shade to dress down a funky gold ensemble.

2. Shoes

Nude and black shoes are safe options and will go well with a gold dress. But, like Meryl Streep at the Oscars in 2014, you can go gold on gold by pairing a golden gown with gold shoes. You can go for either peep-toes or stilettos, but not pumps.

3. Bag

When wearing a gold dress, the bag needs to be as unnoticeable as possible. A nude or black clutch can be an elegant choice. You can also opt for undersized handbags with chain straps, as long as the colors don’t clash with the dress.

4. Makeup

As with everything that goes with wearing a gold dress, you need to tone down the makeup. Unless you want to be mistaken for the disco ball, keep your makeup natural. Wearing a concealer and light eye makeup will already do the trick. For inspiration, check out Jennifer Lopez at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, where she accessorized her plunging golden Marchesa dress with a sun-kissed glow, lush lashes, and neat high bun.

If you are bold enough, you can wear lipstick in scarlet red or deep plum like Beyonce and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Just make sure that you tone down all the other accessories if you choose these bold lip colors.

Indeed, the key to shining in a gold dress is the confidence of your inner goddess that you exude when you wear it.
